Kathy
Poucher - Artist Biography
Art, in some
form, has always been an integral part of my life. Sitting and
drawing in my first grade art class, I vividly remember when
the idea of perspective and dimension became real to me. This
excited me so much, it became a life long passion.
Art in grade
and high school were my favorite classes. In high school, I was
selected for the governors honors program and won the art
award my junior year. I pursued art at Georgia State in Atlanta,
and West Georgia College in Carrollton. While at West Georgia
I met my wonderful husband in a painting class. After marriage
in 1975, it was pencil and pen drawings between pregnancies,
nursing babies and diapers. As our five children grew, I would
do murals and portraits. I also volunteered for painting stage
sets for the Carrollton High School Drama Department, my church
drama productions and VBS projects.
In 2007 I won
best of show for the Arts Clayton annual juried show in Jonesboro,
Georgia. I was accepted in the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center
juried art show in 2008. I was also accepted in the Mecca Fine
Arts juried show, Carrollton, Georgia, in 2004. Since 2004 I
have participated in the Mecca Fine Arts festival as a member
of the Carrollton Artists guild every year. I am currently
a member of the Carrollton Artist Guild and Arts Clayton.
I paint what
I love-people and nature in all their simplicity and glory as
God made them. I would like for my paintings to demonstrate the
peace, love and care of God I see every day.
I am currently
exhibiting paintings at the Side Street Gallery, City Hall Avenue,
Bowdon Ga., Arts Clayton Gallery, downtown Jonesboro, Ga., Carrollton
Cultural Arts Center, and Illusions Gallery and Frames, Lee Street,
Carrollton, Ga. |
